How to Paint a Kitchen Island

Painting your kitchen island a new color is a great way to give your kitchen a fresh look without renovating the entire space. All you need are some basic tools, Extreme Bond Primer and a coat or two of Emerald® Urethane Trim Enamel.

Cost: $
Skill Level: Beginner
Duration: 1 day

STEP 1

Prep

Remove all hardware from any cabinets on the island and apply tape around the countertops and floor.

Lay drop cloths down on the kitchen floor.

STEP 2

Clean

Wash down the island with a good degreasing cleaner to get rid of any dust and dirt. Make sure the surface is completely dry before priming.

STEP 3

Sand

Once dry, scuff sand the wood surfaces of your kitchen island.

STEP 4

Prime

Apply your primer, then check for adhesion. Once good adhesion is established you're ready to paint.

STEP 5

Paint

Apply your first coat of paint — we used Emerald® Urethane Trim Enamel in Peppercorn SW 7674.

Allow it to completely dry and add a second coat if needed.
