  1. 1

First, select your dresser. We recommend one with drawers that fully remove, and a dresser body that frames each drawer, to maximize color contrast

  2. 2

    Prep Your Dresser:

Remove the knobs and clean the dresser with warm water and detergent. Once it’s dry, sand the dresser and clean off dust with tack cloth.

  3. 3

Remove drawers and paint the body of the dresser. We chose Emerald® Interior Acrylic Latex Paint in Romance SW 6323. It's both paint and primer, so just one coat is enough.

  4. 4

Paint each dresser drawer using a sponge or soft bristle brush. We used Tricorn Black SW 6258. Slowly brush from the center of the face out to the edge.

  5. 5

Once it’s all completely dry, carefully replace the drawers into the dresser frame, and screw new knobs on to finish the look.

Project Overview

Inspired by Holly Golightly's impossibly quick and startlingly chic getting-ready routine in Breakfast At Tiffany's, we took to the work studio to see just how fast we could turn a plain old dresser into a favorite...little black dresser (every girl should have one). All it really takes is the right colors and Sherwin Williams' Emerald® Interior Acrylic Latex Paint, which is both paint and primer in one.
