  1. 1

Clean the surface of walls with a bucket of soapy water and sponge to remove dirt and oils before painting.

  2. 2

Plan your color combination and where you would like to have your horizontal line.

  3. 3

Measure from the ceiling and put a mark on the wall about every 4 feet.

  4. 4

Then, use painters tape to connect the marks, keeping in mind that the top portion will be painted first, so place your tape on the bottom side of your marks. Don’t forget to tape around the molding of windows and doors.

  5. 5

Use a 2" brush to apply Emerald Interior Acrylic Latex Paint - Flat (“Veiled Violet”, SW 6268) along the top of the line and any corners of the wall or ceiling.

  6. 6

Use an extension roller or ladder to paint the remaining area using the proper “W” technique. Continue onto the ceiling. Remove tape while paint is still “tacky.” Let paint dry completely before next step.

  7. 7

Now, tape on the top side of your line, prepping for the bottom portion. Also tape around any floor, window, or door molding.

  8. 8

Use a 2" brush to apply Emerald Interior Acrylic Latex Paint - Flat (“Elation”, SW 6827) along the bottom edge of tape and any corners or molding.

  9. 9

Use a roller to paint the remaining area using the proper “W” technique. Remove tape while paint is still “tacky” Let dry.

  10. 10

    Enjoy!
