  1. 1

Begin by washing with a good cleaner degreaser to clean the surfaces of the desk and chair.

Use a primer for best color coverage when you're painting over a dark surface. Visit your local Sherwin-Williams store for expert advice and help selecting the best products for your project.

  2. 2

For each piece, use a foam brush to apply the first coat of paint. Be sure to stir your paint before you begin.

A foam brush is the perfect painting tool for small projects around the house. However, for bigger pieces like the desk, also consider a cordless handheld airless sprayer to achieve smooth coverage and an even coat.

  3. 3

Wait 4 hours for the first coat of paint to dry, then apply a second coat. See your can of paint for drying instructions.

When painting a piece with a steel surface, like this desk, we recommend using Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish to ensure damage resistance and easy cleanup.

  4. 4
