Step 1

Prep Surface

To ensure great paint adhesion, wash off any oil or dirt on the door using a bucket of soapy water and sponge, then let it dry.

Step 2

Plan Design

Plan your color combination and where you would like to have your horizontal line.

Step 3

Measure & Mark

Measure from the ceiling and put a mark on the wall about every 4 feet.

Step 4

Apply Painter's Tape

Then, use painters tape to connect the marks, keeping in mind that the top portion will be painted first, so place your tape on the bottom side of your marks.

Don’t forget to tape around the molding of windows and doors.

Step 5

Apply Paint with Brush

Use a 2" brush to apply Emerald Interior® Acrylic Latex Paint (in Veiled Violet SW 6268) along the top of the line and any corners of the wall or ceiling.

Step 6

Use Roller

Use an extension roller or ladder to paint the remaining area using the proper “W” technique.

Continue onto the ceiling.

Remove tape while paint is still “tacky.” Let paint dry completely before next step.

Step 7

Apply Tape on Lower Section

Now, tape on the top side of your line, prepping for the bottom portion.

Also tape around any floor, window, or door molding.
