Hi I'm Shannon Kaye, I'm a designer and my design practice really is called "Making Room for More."

I started studying design in school but then when I became a decorative painter that's where I really learned how color and nuance, texture and layer all go together.

For me color has such an impact on our lives.

It affects our day, our attitude, our outlook on things.

It's really important to feel comfortable in the spaces that you spend the most time in.

When I first came into this home there wasn't a lot to look at.

My client’s objectives were to create kind of an entertaining somewhat of a party space, but really for her husband and his colleagues.

I was walking through the house with the client wondering what I could do that would not be too much for her but as soon as I came around the corner, into the sitting area off the kitchen here, I saw this beautiful modern piece of art.

That's when I knew. I turned to her and I said, “You love color! You're like modern fresh cheerful.”

She said, “I really do. I just don't know how to do it for the rest of my house.”

So Making Room for More is really a goal-based design approach.

It's like: What do you want to create in your life? or What are you trying to achieve?

You know, we all want our home to be pretty, that's obvious.

But I want to find out how you want to improve your life or your lifestyle and create a space that supports that.

The typical process when I first meet a client that I go through is to first really look at them and listen to what they have to say about this space.

I start there, “What do you love?” and then, “What don't you like?

What needs to stay? What can go?”

I want the place to be a totally personalized expression of their lifestyle.

It's about collaborating with the clients and giving them something that helps them feel good about their lives.
