Paint for Designers: Emerald® Designer Edition™

Emerald® Designer Edition: A Gem in the Paint World

With advances in new product technology, we had the opportunity to create a best-in-class product developed to suit the needs of designers and pros alike.

Let’s get to know Emerald® Designer Edition™ and take a look at some finished projects made possible by the stunning Emerald® Designer Edition™ Color Collection.

A Paint for Designers, By Designers

Extensive research went into the development of this formula—a combination paint and primer in one that offers our best hide yet and truly remarkable color. “We love the earthy, grounded feel of the color collection,” says designer Susan Hill, “and the products themselves are outstanding to work with.”

“Tarragon SW 9660 was a perfect fit for our Modern Hive Project. It provided a deep, moody vibe without feeling heavy and overdone, while providing interest and a great contrast to the white oak. Amazing color!” —Susan Hill

Thoughtfully Curated Colors

The introduction of this premium product inspired us to develop an array of stunning new colors, including the brightest, purest whites of any Sherwin-Williams paints to date, thanks to a brand-new ultra-white base.

As we created the collection, we looked at in-depth industry research studies and feedback from designers and other professionals, and we discovered gaps in our ColorSnap® Color System that needed to be filled. We also factored in the findings from our rigorous color trend forecasting efforts, asking, “What are we seeing in architecture and design, both now and into the near future?”

From there, we built out our Emerald® Designer Edition™ Color Collection to be as comprehensive as possible—200 colors strong—featuring palettes of warm neutrals, cool neutrals, natural neutrals, curated chromatics, and a heavenly mix of blues and greens.

Designer Color Collection: A Closer Look

The 200 colors of the Emerald® Designer Edition™ Color Collection are organized into five extraordinary palettes. The Form + Function palette is a bounty of highly usable neutrals inspired by the natural world.

Our Minimal + Modern palette is a contemporary collection of cool neutrals with “a freshness to the hues that make it easy to select the absolute perfect color,” in the words of designer Kelly Berg.

“Smooth Stone SW 9568 highlights the veining of the marble countertops, pairs gorgeously with brass, and creates a wonderfully rich and warm backdrop for the entire kitchen, without being too cold. I would use this color again in a heartbeat! This deck is one of my most coveted color design tools.” —Kelly Berg

Our Warm + Welcoming palette offers inviting and comforting neutrals that exude a gentle glow. “I love working with taupe,” Jean Stoffer says about her choices from this palette for the Madison. “It is a trend-defiant color, since it sits perfectly in between beige and gray.”

Jean Stoffer chose three different light taupes from the Warm + Welcoming palette for the living room of the Madison. The ceiling is Sunbleached SW 9585,the walls are Limewash SW 9589, and all the trim is Symmetry SW 9601. She says the final look has “a warm glow in the evening and is vibrant during the day.”

The colors in our Rustic + Refined palette dwell in the sweet spot between vivid saturation and balanced sophistication.

Finally, the Classic + Collected palette, shown here in the Southern Living Idea House, is our assortment of soft shades and statement hues that set designs apart while easily keeping a composed aesthetic.
