Greensure® Marks High Quality Standards

Sherwin-Williams GreenSure Designation Certifies Environmental Coatings with Maximum Performance

CLEVELAND (April 21, 2008) — In response to the growing awareness of the green building movement and Sherwin-Williams commitment to developing environmentally preferable solutions, the company has expanded its line of GreenSure-designated coatings. GreenSure is applied to Sherwin-Williams coatings that offer long term durability; the highest indoor air quality ratings with low VOCs and low odor; and meet or exceed the GS-11 criteria for coatings used in LEED-certified buildings. Going beyond most third-party certification, GreenSure takes into consideration product performance and a variety of other factors that impact the environment. 

“Our GreenSure designation assists our customers in identifying the Sherwin-Williams coatings that will meet or exceed their performance expectations while also allowing them to comply with the most stringent environmental regulations,” said Steve Revnew, director of marketing, product development, Sherwin-Williams.

Sherwin-Williams offers three products that meet its GreenSure designation criteria: Duration Home® Interior Latex, Harmony® Interior Latex and now Builders Solution® Topcoat.

Formulated with patented cross-linking technology that prevents stains from penetrating, Duration Home Interior Latex provides better washability than any other paint or ceramic coating on the market. The low-VOC, low-odor formula demonstrates superior resistance to moisture and streaking and features antimicrobial properties to inhibit the growth of mold or mildew on the paint film.

Duration Home is now available in deep, vivid accent bases in all sheens — matte, satin and semi-gloss — and will withstand repeated cleanings without burnish marks or visible wear no matter what color or sheen is selected. Surfaces painted with Duration Home maintain a fresh finish longer and will resist the need for frequent repaints minimizing the impact on the environment.

For projects that require immediate occupancy of the space, Harmony Interior Latex is an ideal choice. Harmony is a zero-VOC, low-odor coating that exceeds environmental regulations and can be applied without concern of the disruptive odor of newly painted spaces. Like Duration Home, Harmony has antimicrobial properties and is formulated without silica. The waterborne coating has better hiding which translates to less coats needed and is available in a complete interior paint line, from primer to topcoat, in eg-shel, flat and semi-gloss finishes.

Sherwin-Williams recently announced that its Builders Solution Topcoat now carries its proprietary GreenSure designation. Builders Solutions Topcoat is part of the Builders Solution Interior Coating System which includes a Surfacer that minimizes drywall imperfections resulting in reduced callbacks. The coating system address two of the leading complaints home buyers have after their new homes are complete including poor wall appearance — due to even the most minor drywall imperfections and paint touch-ups — and the unpleasant odor of fresh paint. For this reason, Sherwin-Williams has extended its Builders Solution Interior Coating System to include a deep base matte flat finish.
