Sherwin-Williams Introduces More Colors and Easier Color Coordination

With Concepts in Color Collection and Selection Tools

CHICAGO (June 11, 2007) - Choosing or approving paint colors can be an important, but at times challenging process. But now, with the new Concepts in Color palette from Sherwin-Williams, color selection is easier than ever. The 250 new shades are conveniently organized into 10 color families and displayed on larger paint chips, streamlining the choice of the right red, best blue or optimal orange. Sherwin-Williams also provides the inspiration and color tools to coordinate hues and incorporate the latest trends.

"We began by studying the color selection process and color decisions of all our residential and commercial customer segments. We created this color selection system to meet today's demanding expectations. The new Concepts in Color palette and tools are our latest solution to help build confidence in color choices. They are designed to help home builders, painting contractors, architects and designers provide clients with reliable, expert, value-added resources on color selection," said Sheri Thompson, Sherwin-Williams director of color marketing and design.

Thinking outside the paint chip, each hue in the Concepts in Color collection is grouped with sibling shades and presented on a generously sized 3 x 5-inch sample. These swatches feature a perforated "window" opening to help coordinate paint choices with fabrics, wallcoverings, flooring and the existing 1,200 colors offered by Sherwin-Williams. Suggestions for complementary interior and exterior colors are noted on the back of each paint chip.

In all, Sherwin-Williams has added 25 shades each from the red, blue, green, yellow and orange families, plus 125 new neutrals and whites.

Realizing that customers look to their builders, contractors and designers to help them visualize what colors will look like in a space, Sherwin-Williams has created 30 Concepts in Color cards. Each card uses vivid room photography to inspire the use of a particular color on a wall, trim or as an accent.  Other helpful tools are the five "lifestyle" trend cards and swatches of 37 hues from the current color system that represent some of today's most fashionable colors. "We're showcasing our current design trends to spark the imagination, no matter your client's style," Thompson said.

The Concepts in Color collection and selection tools are featured on a new merchandiser in local Sherwin-Williams stores.  A Concepts in Color fan deck and larger size architectural color samples are also available. The entire collection can be previewed using the Sherwin-Williams online Color Visualizer at www.sherwin-williams.com.
