Green Is More Than A Color At Sherwin-Williams
Discover a Rainbow of Products That Keep the Environment in Mind
LAS VEGAS (January 20, 2009) ― Paint is one of the quickest ways to freshen up a home, and what could be more satisfying than rejuvenating a kitchen or family room with a product that is mindful of the environment?
“Consumers’ desire to do the right thing for the world is not just an afterthought when it comes to paint selection,” said Steve Revnew, director of product development at Sherwin-Williams. “For the past 25 years, we’ve been dedicated to developing high-quality products that contribute to better indoor air quality and have a lower impact on the environment.”
No matter what the project entails, Sherwin-Williams features high-performance, low-to-zero-VOC (volatile organic compound) solutions such as Duration Home® Interior Latex, Harmony® Interior Latex and Resilience™ Premium Exterior Latex Paint.
Low VOCs, High Performance
Beyond having low-to-zero VOCs, paint must perform well over time. After all, the more durable a product is, the better it covers and the less often a room needs to be repainted — which also benefits the environment. For this reason, Sherwin-Williams offers Duration Home Interior Latex, perfect for high-traffic hallways, bathrooms, kids’ rooms and anywhere long-wearing durability, antimicrobial properties and stain resistance are a must.
This low-VOC, low-odor coating is tough enough to withstand repeated cleanings without visible wear, no matter which color or sheen is selected. And it is available in an array of colors, including bold accent hues.
Most smudges, spills and splatters wipe off with water — no scrubbing necessary and no marring of the paint’s appearance. There is no need to worry about unsightly burnish marks, the “shiny” spots that can appear when painted surfaces are cleaned or accidentally rubbed. As a result, rooms will stay cleaner and fresh longer, keeping the room as beautiful as the day it was painted.
For homeowners who want to paint a living space and enjoy it the same day without that “fresh paint” smell, Sherwin-Williams offers Harmony Interior Latex. This zero-VOC, low-odor paint is an ideal choice for rooms such as nurseries. The waterborne coating has excellent hide, meaning it covers in fewer coats, and is available in a complete interior line, from primer to topcoat, in flat, eg-shel, and semi-gloss finishes. Plus, it has additives that inhibit the growth of mold and mildew on the surface of the paint film.
Both Duration Home and Harmony have earned not only the Good Housekeeping Seal, but also the Sherwin-Williams GreenSure® seal. Applied to the company’s coatings that are developed and manufactured with less impact on the environment, GreenSure-designated paints meet or exceed the toughest regulatory standards.
“Our GreenSure seal makes it easy for homeowners to identify the environmentally responsible coatings from Sherwin-Williams that also meet their premium performance needs,” Revnew said. In addition, Harmony is also GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified®.
And environmentally responsible paints aren’t just meant to freshen up the indoors. Homeowners can also choose exterior coatings formulated with low VOCs. Sherwin-Williams has introduced Resilience Premium Exterior Latex Paint, a low-VOC product formulated with MoistureGuard™ technology to cure in about half the time of most conventional exterior paints. That means no worries about rain in the forecast: freshly painted surfaces develop resistance to moisture in about two hours, compared to the four-hour drying time of many other coatings. Available in flat or satin sheens, Resilience also has excellent hide and a lifetime limited warranty when two coats are applied.
Green Inside and Out
For consumers, being eco-conscious goes beyond selecting the product. Sherwin-Williams soon will package its Duration Home and Harmony Interior Latex paints in a sustainable paint can. The new container is made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled material. The label contains 75 percent recovered fiber and 25 percent post-consumer waste, and is printed with soy ink.
“We know that when consumers seek a sustainable product, they have a holistic view and want goods that are environmentally responsible from the inside out,” Revnew said. “With our new can, Sherwin-Williams is able to provide our customers with an all-encompassing, environmentally responsible product ― a low-VOC paint in recycled packaging.”
Sherwin-Williams is committed to developing products and business practices that respect the environment. The company invests in research and development to make its operations more efficient, reduce waste and conserve natural resources. It has been streamlining its national distribution processes and developing innovative coatings that have low VOCs, high durability and require fewer coats.
