How to Paint Your Home Green

You can achieve great painting results and still be mindful of the environment.  With our GreenSure® products and the tips below, you can make your home a green home, no matter what color you choose.

TIP 1

Start with our GreenSure line of products.

We make our paints with sustainable raw materials and use formulations that are low-odor and low-VOC's, reducing their impact on the environment.

Our GreenSure products offer maximum performance and long-term durability, so you don’t have to paint as often.  Plus they have the highest indoor air quality ratings.

We’ve also developed many of our coatings to be mildew resistant and easy to clean.

TIP 2

Use all the paint.

Watch this video for a guide on how much paint you need for your room.

If you have leftover paint, ask a friend, family member or neighbor if they could use some extra paint.

TIP 3

Seal the paint tightly.

Unused paint should be stored in tightly sealed cans and placed upside down to maintain the seal.  Whatever you do, don’t pour leftover paint down the drain.

TIP 4

Don’t clean tools on multi-day projects.

Instead of repeatedly cleaning tools (and washing paint down the drain), wrap them in a plastic bag.  They’ll last overnight or even a few days, as long as you keep them out of the sun.
Watch this video for clean-up tips.

TIP 5

Dispose of paint properly.

In some areas you can throw your paint in the trash, but only if you first convert it to solid waste.  To do this, just remove the lid and allow the water or solvents to evaporate.  Make sure you do this in an area kids or pets can’t access.  (Rules vary, so check local guidelines and procedures).
